Tonight I got together with some great folks at a local coffee shop for a special viewing of the new documentary “War on Kids.” The event was hosted by Iniabi Free School, a democratic school serving youth in the
Dallas / Fort Worth metroplex.

The content of the film illustrates quite well just how ugly the American public education system has become. Current administrative policies operating in public schools are grossly dysfunctional. Zero tolerance policy, watchdog cameras, metal detectors, and psychiatric drug therapy are discussed at length and seen for the abominations that they are. Well sourced statistical data is provided that demonstrates that these things are completely ineffective.

Though being argued as coming from a pure intention, these devices have done little else besides disenfranchise our nation’s youth of their liberties and discourage them from becoming independent learners. A society’s methods for educating its children speaks volumes about the future of our nation. An analysis of the inner workings of our education system reveals great insights concerning the present state of psychological and sociocultural health enjoyed by our nation’s peoples.

The future of our nation and indeed the world is equivalent to the lives and learning and experiences of each successive generation of beings. After viewing this movie, it has become quite clear to me that the course we are on is long overdue for a change and that society at large is on a clear-cut course of self-destruction.

Turning My 100% Raw Foods “Failure” into a Success

by Christian Locke on February 23, 2010

In all fairness, it is my duty to tell you that I am no longer eating a 100% raw food diet. I lasted ten days and then went back to eating cooked foods, however, I am still eating raw foods from time to time. Even though there are great reading materials and community to support a transition to a raw foods diet, the responsibility still lies with you the individual to continue or cancel whatever endeavor you are pursuing.

In my own case, I couldn’t help but notice that I have had something of a roller-coaster syndrome when it comes to food and/or chasing ideals; perhaps the same could be said about other activities in my life. As a society, we praise those individuals who have the resolve to choose a particular course of action and constantly stick with it. Undoubtedly, this is a great feat and a virtue worth its praise, but should it be expected behavior by anyone and everyone?

Recipe: Rich Creamy Almond Milk

by Christian Locke on February 11, 2010

Making your own organic Almond Milk is fun and easy and it is the best method for preserving the most nutrients. All you need are almonds, water, blender, love, and a bit of patience. Here’s how it’s done:

1. Get some organic almonds (it is better to get ones that you have to crack open yourself but I rarely do that because it’s really time consuming), the organic almonds in the bins have probably, per my research, been heated or run through some kind of weird process that makes them less beneficial. Researching where nuts come from can help clarify this and it is interesting.

2. Take the almonds (without the shells obviously) and soak them in water for 6- 10 hours, overnight is a good rule of thumb and its pragmatic. You want there to be about an inch or two of water above the almonds in whatever container you’re soaking them in. Discard any floaters because they’re rancid, you might stir em up and wait to make sure you get rid of all the floaters.

Book Review: “12 Steps to Raw Foods” by Victoria Boutenko

by Christian Locke on January 12, 2010

12_steps12 Steps to Raw Foods by Victoria Boutenko is one of the better books I have read on the subject of raw foods. It is a book which is aimed at helping a long time cooked food eater like my former self transition to a raw foods diet and lifestyle. I was first introduced to raw foods in 2009. Though I had heard of raw foods before, it was during 2009 that I really came to understand it. I networked with many raw food people in the Dallas/Fort Worth area and attended several raw food potluck events.

Throughout 2009 I did my best to try and incorporate raw foods into my daily meals; however, I was experiencing a lot of teeter-tottering between eating primarily raw and primarily cooked and though I felt better and more energized while eating raw it was difficult not to eat all those tasty cooked foods I had enjoyed for the past thirty years. After awhile I started to realize that my attempts to go raw were unsuccessful in the long term because I lacked knowledge of how to change.

When I picked up Victoria Boutenko’s book and started going through it, I was incredibly relieved to find the missing knowledge and support I needed to overcome my cooked food dependency once and for all. At the beginning of 2010 I resolved to go 100% raw and I’m doing great thanks to this awesome book which I could barely put down!

Ho’o Pono Pono – Hawaiian Art of Healing

by Christian Locke on December 29, 2009

The Uses of Ho’o Ponopono
According to Dr. Ihaleakala Hew Len, people are 100% responsible for whatever is in their life whether it is good or bad. In today’s world, we’re always looking for someone to blame but we never think to look within ourselves to see if it is our own thinking causing our problem. Psychology deals with these same issues but on a much more superficial level. Ho’o ponopono directly works on the subconscious mind which is the most important level. Dr. Ihaleakala Hew Len is most well known for curing an entire ward of criminally insane mental patients using the Ho’o Ponopono technique. Sound impossible?

The Huna tradition is a most ancient culture of Shamanism that dates back to at least 1500 C.E. although it is probably older. The same principles and concepts are akin to the Atlanteans, a curiously similar civilization. Many of the early people around the world had an outlook common to the Hawaiians. A vision of peace bliss, joy and love. The Hawaiian culture is full of amazing surprises. One little known fact is that the popular Hawaiian art of Hula dancing is actually a spiritual practice!

babybloom

Ever the one to be thinking ahead, David Wolfe and his company Sunfood has just launched a new line of products I wish my parents would have fed me when I was a baby. Its called Babybloom and as you can see by the image, there’s quite a few items to choose from, why not collect them all? While you’re at it, why not treat yourself to some of David’s other magical products, after all we’re all just babies right?

God is Alive and Well

by Christian Locke on July 13, 2009

Guess what? God loves us no matter what we say or do. How do I know? Because without God pulling breath this conversation would not be happening. Your breath is God, your higher power, revere it every moment with love and respect and your life will surely be transformed. Don’t look to the caricature in the sky, look at the breath going in and out of your body which decides when it wants to leave you and there’s nothing you or anyone elses tiny little ego can do about it. Love God (Life) in every breath while you still have the time and opportunity to do so and you will see the world transformed for we are the world.

Who would love this body if it weren’t breathing? No one, when the breath is gone, we bury the body, you are not you, you are the real you, made in the image of the creator, in every thought word and deed you are creating this reality. Take responsibility and revere your breath as God and so too will you revere others and all of Life, for all of Life Breathes – Omnipresent. Life knows all, without breath there are no thoughts for the mind to think – Omniscience. Breath is happening automatically, being given with no expectation as unconditional love – Omnibenevolence. Without breath there is no life – omnipotence.

(June 30th – July 7th), I attended the Rainbow Gathering in New Mexico just outside of Cuba (the city) along with my longtime friend Daniel Katsuk. A splendid time was guaranteed by all and they were correct.

Rainbow 2009

Rainbow 2009

The overarching theme of Rainbow Gathering is unconditional love against the backdrop of what appears to be a rather successful anarchy; and I’m not talking about the bomb throwing terrorist kind ie. military-industrial complex. The rainbow gathering is a collective of individuals that takes place without an official governing body. The organization and planning of the location at which it will take place is decided upon by something akin to a council of elders – those who sit in the circle and pass the stick around are those who act as the governing body at that time, thus there is equality in terms of representation for those who participate.

Throughout the gathering, there are many groups who are self-responsible for creating, sustaining, and breaking down their respective encampments, most with kitchens, and thus there are many diverse groups to visit which make the gathering all the more interesting. Also, of particular mention is the fact that many of these groups arrive sometimes a month or more in advance to set things up just right and they also stay for awhile after the “official” gathering to make sure that the space is returned as closely as possible to the way it was before so it is as though no one had ever been there.

A day in the life of a visitor to the gathering, more appropriately deemed a rainbow brother or sister typically includes walking around meeting new people, eating free food and visiting different encampments and kitchens, singing songs, dancing, playing music and drums, basking in the glory and grandeur of the natural surroundings, and overall just having a great time in love and liberty.

Cause of Michael Jackson’s Death Finally Discovered

by Christian Locke on June 27, 2009

Well friends, the cause of Michael Jackson’s death has finally been uncovered. It doesn’t look too good I’m afraid. The exact cause responsible for the death of Michael Jackson, the king of pop, it turns out, is none other than — death! reaper5

Yes that’s right, death is the cause of Michael Jackson’s death. Perhaps worst of all, is the discovery that what killed Michael Jackson is going to kill all of us. Worldwide outcry over Michael Jackson’s recent demise has been overshadowed by the fear and anxiety among every living individual human-being on the face of the earth as they have all come to realize that they too will one day succumb to the lord of death.
